A fight years in the making will take place on May 18 when Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk determine the first undisputed heavyweight champion since 1999. The fight and undercard action airs on DAZN and ESPN+ PPV. Fury is a former unified heavyweight and the current WBC heavyweight champion. Suspensions and mental health issues forced him out of boxing for a few years, but since returning, he has become one of the faces of the heavyweight division. The 35-year-old Fury retired briefly in 2022 but couldn't miss an opportunity at history.

Usyk looks to become the third active male fighter to be undisputed in two divisions , as he previously held gold at cruiserweight. The Ukrainian is 5-0 in the heavyweight division, with two wins against Anthony Joshua and one against Derek Chisora, who Fury is 3-0 against. The fight was supposed to be in December 2023 and February 2024. Fury beat Francis Ngannou in October but got knocked down by the MMA fighter and boxing novice , forcing the fight to get delayed to February. The fight got moved again once Fury suffered a cut while training . The second delay was an inconvenience to boxing fans and Usyk.

Tyson Fury's promoter Bob Arum has declared that the world heavyweight champion will earn in excess of £100million for his fight with Oleksandr Usyk, breaking an heavyweight record. The duo will compete for the undisputed world heavyweight title provided Fury gets through Francis Ngannou at the end of this month in Saudi Arabia.

And the bout could take place as soon as December 23, although a January date is more likely given how close the two fights would be. Fury is currently the WBC champion, while Usyk holds the WBA, WBO and IBF belts. In the four-belt era, there has never been an undisputed champion at heavyweight, with a number of big fights falling apart between the various champions since the reign of the Klitschko brothers ended.
